Description

Yet another enemy ship design I have created on windows paint. this is a large bomber that uses unique bombs and is very tough for its size. Description is below. As always any comments, suggestions, or critiques are welcome.

Name: Chor Sonic Bomber
Class: Heavy Bomber
Crew: 3, 1 pilot, 1 Gunner, 1 Bombardier
Weapons: 2 rotating medium repeating laser guns, 1 fixed light laser gun, 1 fixed heavy laser cannon, 2 bomb shoots.
Affiliation: Insectoid Species Chor

The Chor Sonic Bomber is much larger than most bombers of its type. The bomber is very similar in design to the Chor sonic fighter; both have the same dual shield matrix, same hull material, and even the same engine type. The bomber is different from the fighter in its size, larger but similar cockpit, and an extra power core. The primary core powers the engines, sensors, life support, communications, thrusters, and the main bomb generators. The second core powers the three weapon generators and the 2 motion actuators that allow the side guns to rotate 360 degrees around and 20 degrees upwards. The heavy front cannon and the light gun behind it share the same generator but can still fire at the same time without trouble. This ship is able to harass enemy capitol ships and dreadnoughts but is also equally capable of attacking smaller cruisers and large shuttles.

The two bomb shoots work separately from each other but are usually fired simultaneously for maximum damage. Each shoot is connected to a chamber with twin magnetic crystalline spheres that vibrate at near light speed generating dense sonic energy that has been diametrically charged. The energy is then enveloped in a static plasma shell. The sonic ball of energy is literally pushing against itself outwardly while the plasma shell holds it inwards. Once there is room more bombs can be generated in minutes, this means that as long as there is power and plasma the ship has bombs. The plasma used is only 1/8 ounce for each 6 bombs and each bomb chamber uses a separate plasma tank that holds 15 pounds of plasma in a stable magnetic core. The bomb shoot can hold 6 bombs and release them in a line or all at once. Each bomb appears as a faint blue ball ½ meter in diameter. When it hits a hull or dense energy field the sonic energy is released in a massive ball of destructive energy that expands outwards as 2 semicircles. The plasma energy is quickly dissipated by energy shields or by the initial hull impact. Each bomb actually enhances the others when it explodes by either deflecting the sonic wave back, or by increasing it as it moves forward depending on which part of the diametrically charged energy hits it. The bomb shoot rolls the bombs outwards from the top of the shoot backwards to the rolled wing where it drops away and back towards its target in an unguided spin in a parabolic ark. The bombs are ten times more destructive than the sonic fighters cannons, they bombs are equally damaging to shields as hulls and the sonic vibrations are deadly to crew and systems directly beneath the blast zone.

The gunner and bombardier sit side by side in the rear of the cockpit separated by their control screens the pilot sits in front of them. The pilot controls the craft and the 2 fixed guns. The gunner controls the 2 medium rotating guns as well as main navigation and communications. The Bombardier controls target selection, bomb production, bomb containment, release methods, and release time. Because of the cramp nature of the cockpit the whole crew wears full pressure suits with attached air tanks, the ship does have simple life support and the cabin does have air but it is not pressurised nor is it heated or have gravity. The crew connects their air tanks to the ship via hoses, if a hose is removed their air tank immediately activates. The crew can eject the whole top canopy, which separates into many pieces, before them and their seats are launched free of the ship.

The craft has no light speed capabilities but its large engine and directional exhaust give it great forward maneuverability. The bomber can fly just as well in the atmosphere as in space and is able to perform re-entry with ease. Large manoeuvring wings on the rear assist with spatial turbulence and atmospheric flight as well as hold advanced targeting sensors that assist the regular onboard sensor suite. The ship has twin shields that are the same as on the Chor sonic fighter. The sonic bomber requires a carrier craft for long distance travel. The standard formation for these bombers is as a crooked line of 6 pairs of bombers with fighters ahead and behind them.
